Report: Fewer Blockchain Hacks in 2020
Analysts say blockchain hacks will decline.
The number of hack attacks in the cryptocurrency and blockchain space has declined over the course of 2020, according to a new report
According to data from VPN provider Atlas VPN, the number of hacks more than tripled in the first half of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. The data comes from a report released by Atlas VPN on October 28th.
According to Bitcoin Trader, 2019 was a record breaking year for blockchain hacks. There were 94 successful attacks in the first half of the year, compared to 31 in H1 2020.
According to the report, there were a total of 133 successful attacks on blockchain networks in 2019.
Based on the historical data, the analysts at Atlas VPN suspect that the number of blockchain hacks will continue to decrease:
„Since 2020 is not over yet, we can expect more blockchain-related hacks to take place by the end of the year. Nonetheless, based on the data, we can say that 2020 will not be past the last year. Blockchain hacks will continue go back. “
Hackers have stolen $ 13.6 billion from 330 blockchain-related hacks since 2009. Atlas VPN found that attacks targeting decentralized EOS applications (DApps) were the most successful. The EOS-DApps will be followed by cryptocurrency exchanges, blockchain wallets and Ethereum blockchain-DApps, according to the report.
As previously reported, cryptocurrency fraud and theft lost $ 4.4 billion in 2019 . In comparison, hackers in 2018 have US dollars by crypto theft and fraud about 1.7 billion stolen .
